Foodie review: Baby Pizza
The lovely people at Urbanspoon wrote to me this week to remind me it’s been a fair while since I’d written anything for them. Very true. And I apologise. Truth is I haven’t really been eating out recently. I’m trying to lose weight and save money, both not conducive to stuffing my face at fancy restaurant. Plus, now that I’m single again, I’ve don’t have the ‘dating’ excuse for dining out as much. And if truth be told, I’m relishing my sofa, my TV, my me time and not having to share anything with anybody.
Pizza for breakfast. I wasn’t really convinced, even if it was Grand Final day where all conventions go out of the window. It was Gym Bunny’s birthday and I hadn’t really been out in ages so pushed my concerns to the side and prepared myself for a pizza and glass of champagne at 10.30am.
I’m not really familiar with Richmond and certainly not the Church St end so got a bit lost trying to find the joint. That end of town is all a bit work-related for my liking. The cafes and buildings all look like they wouldn’t be open on a Saturday morning so I was convinced I’d come to the wrong place. Melbourne had truly brought the 4 seasons in 1 day myth to reality as the ferocious winds blew the sun, rain and clientele inside – no wonder the place looked shut.
The place was packed, OK full of footie fans and serving alcohol at 10am in the morning. Of course the day was going on a slippery trajectory from there on in. The booze list was extensive, the food all sounded yummy without being pretentious, and yes there are breakfast pizzas. Service was prompt, correct and helpful. Exactly what you need on a busy Saturday morning with a large group. I’m sure the staff were having a miserable time working on Grand Final day, surrounded by people determined to have fun despite the weather, but it didn’t show. Not even when we split the bill all manner of ways.
I opted for the scrambled eggs – too many pizza carbs that early would surely send me into a coma for the rest of the day and I wanted to at least watch the game kick off at 2.30pm. The coffee was good, the eggs perfect and the smashed avo demolished and devoured on its own – saved to last. Gym Bunny had the salmon pizza which looked as good as it smelt. Tasted good too by all accounts. Not wanting to be a party pooper, I celebrated with a grapefruit Bellini – in fact I think I had 4 and I’m converted. Every morning should be started with a grapefruit Bellini!
